Ocean City runs on a season, and a reading on a July Saturday and a reading in February are different animals. In summer the town is full and the evenings book out. Off season it is quieter and easier to get a long sitting on short notice.

Either way it is the same thing: you pick a time, you come, we sit down. A short read is five to ten minutes. A full sitting is thirty to forty.

Why there is no boardwalk table

Because the reading needs a room. Most of what people actually come to say gets said quietly, and it does not get said with a crowd walking past and a speaker going somewhere behind you.

It also means nobody gets talked into a reading on impulse while holding a bag of fries. If you booked, you meant it, and that turns out to matter to how the sitting goes.

If you are visiting

Most people who book in summer are here for the week, and that is completely normal. Book the evening that suits the trip. There is no deposit and nothing to cancel, so a change of plan costs you nothing beyond telling me.

If you are up in Delaware, down toward Assateague, or over the bridge in Salisbury, it is an easy enough drive that people do it regularly.

The online reading is the same reading over video, and it is not a lesser version. It is the one that works when you are not in town, when you would rather be in your own room, or when the season has the evenings full.

People book it from all over, which is the point: the shore has a season and this does not.
